Found out from Colbert last week that a huge collection of Alan Lomax's field recordings (17,000+) have been made available for free online:

I should warn that these recordings are completely raw, but there's an enormous amount of musical wealth in here, both recorded by him and given to him. I'd advise anyone looking to widen their musical horizons to try looking a genre of music that you've never heard before. I've become somewhat partial to the Georgian Music.
I particularly recommend the Unidentified Funeral Song and Odoiia from the second set, if you want to give something a whirl.
