Looking for some type of mini receiver that has HDMI

I picked up some powered speaker for my HTPC setup, however if I want to use them for music I need to turn on my TV as HDMI out is running from PC to TV and sound output going to speakers. I've seen receivers out there that are HDMI capable but they're $200-$300 range. Is there any cheaper solution so I don't have to turn on my TV to be able to utilize speakers for HDMI sound?
 
Nope, speakers are self powered...no amplification necessary. This is why I'm hoping for something that's not an actual receiver as it's not needed.

Currently it's HDMI -> TV -> Speakers, just looking to do HDMI -> *Somethinghere* -> Speakers and TV without spending $250.
