looking for some suggestions in making a purchase for an orbit sander

i'm going to be engaging in a project at home that will require quite a few pieces of wood to be sanded. last time i got into one of these projects, i remember how dead tired my arms were after sanding, so i would like to spare my arm(s) of that torture. i think i will buy an orbit sander, with a budget of $50 max. i think i have narrowed it down to two choices. there are as follows:

contender #1
Craftsman 5 in. Random Orbit Sander

contender #2
Skil Random Orbit Sander

each sander has a quality that i like, which the other does not have, and that is where i am hoping someone here could chime in about. for the craftsman, i like that fact that it has variable speeds. for the skil, i like the fact that it has a pad brake. do you feel that it would be more useful to have the variable speed, or the pad brake? hmmm... 😕

don't wast your money on craftsman or skil power tools. Both my experiences with those brands were horrible. spend $10 more and get a dewalt or porter cable, it will be worth it.

(just bought a sander as well)

I hear NASA is having a sale on orbit sanders. I think one of them is gonna sand a piece of comet off in about 20 minutes.

why do you want an orbital sander? they are tricky to work with. if you put uneven pressure on the surface, you can get swirl marks. would a regular sander work?

from what i read, it seems the orbital sander is most flexible and forgiving.

i just saw a dewalt on home depot's website for $55. i may look into that too, but it seems like a discontinued item i think.
