Anyone have any insight on some IPAM procedures or software? Right now we use Excel spreadsheets and we've had some problems in the past with ensuring the documentation is updated and current.

Looking for anything that might be a better solution than Excel.

Thoughts?

What are you looking for as far as documentation goes?

Overall IP management. Ability to load up subnet ranges we use, document what is in use and whats available, what ranges are DHCP and what are static assigned, any proactive ip detection would be a big plus to identify dhcp leases in use etc etc.

Frankly one problem right now is I dont know what I need which makes the selection a bit of a case of hitting a moving target. Getting a few possible solutions to look into would give me an aidea of whats capable. I mean hell, we use Excel right now which is about as much of a baseline as one can get. I figure we can only go up from there.

We converted to Infoblox IPAM DNS/DHCP last year and it has turned out great. I have a few minor complaints about data entry for the IPAM but most of that went away in the last update when they added import/export capability via CSV.
