I am trying to find a source regarding Chuck's time in South Korea while in the Air Force.
While searching, I came across a dozen or so biographies, all appear to be copied from the same source. You'd think there would be more info, as it says he started karate while in SK, and by the time he got out (less than 4 years in SK) he was good enough to open a chain of gyms and compete on an international level.
So anyways, what I am trying to find is... I remember reading a story about how he went off base to find better dojos, and the local dojos he found were not very welcoming. Basically they hated Americans and did not want him to come back, so beat his ass down pretty good. But he kept coming back, and due the ass whoopin's he got there, he toughened up and was forced to learn quick. I can't remember where I read this as it was years ago, but would like to have a source for this, but it would explain how he went from a noob to badass in such a short time.
