I have no clue as to what European artist are out there so I didn't list any in the summary.

There has to be some people on this board that can recommend me some good artists and perhaps some songs specifically. I really don't care what language just something good to listen to.

Here are a few artists to get you started

Toshi Kubota is a japanese singer, his last album Time To Share was pretty good. Check out the soundbytes from the link

Spacek is a group from London, they have really good music on the 2 albums I've heard. The singing is kind of hit or miss in my opinion but the music is definitely top notched. Kind of like soul and trip hop rolled into one.

I'm not sure where Lewis Taylor is from but I think its somewhere in the UK. I've heard about 5 or 6 songs from this guy and he's very talented.

I think Omar is from England, this guy is great. I've been able to find 2 of his albums here in Chicago and they both are really good, especially Best By far. I believe this album was originally released 2 or 3 years ago under a different name, at any rate its a solid album by a great vocalist.

Julie Dexter is going to be my future wife one day (she just does'nt know yet, neither does my wife). She released an EP called Peace of Mind about 3 years ago and followed up with a full release called Dexterity in 2003 I think. She's from Birmingham, England and she's definitely one of my favorite UK soul artists.

Amy Winehouse should be the next big thing in music, she's super talented, has attitude and she's hot as hell. I can't beleive there are Britney Spears in this world when there are real singers out there like Amy. Her website lists Frank as her first album but she has at least 2 others out there from before. I have'nt heard them yet so they may be demo songs or something like that. Anyway there's only thing you need to know about her, the album Frank is great. I love it.

Les Nubians are 2 female singers from France, they were pretty big in the US although I have'nt heard anything new from them recently.

Floetry originally started off in England but they moved to Philadelphia where they released their debut. Its a good album, great soul music with hints of hiphop and jazz.

Keziah Jones is another talented artist. I just heard about him after he released his latest album Black Orpheus. Black Orpheus is probably the best soul album I've heard from 2003, it's a nice mix of soul and rock. Highly recommended. If I'm not mistaken I think Keziah was born in Africa but grew up in London, he occasionaly does tours in the US. One other thing about his latest album is that the mastering is some of the best I've ever heard in all my years of listening to music. The instrumentation sounds really clean, everything is just crystal clear. Definitely check this guy out.

Here's another artist to check out, she's a 17 year old England girl named Joss Stone. She released an album last year called "The Soul Sessions", its kind of a tribute album to soul music made in the 50's and 60's. While I thought the album was just ok, her voice is really phenomenal. This girl has one of the strongest and truest soul voices I've heard in a long time. I don't mean that as an exaggeration (sp?) either she really has an unbelievable singing voice, she could givr Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey or Christina Aguillera a run for their money. I'm anticipating some really good work from her in the future. Check out a few samples of her voice and hear it for yourself.

wow...thanks Arkitech, I'll have to go check out the artist you wrote about. I only knew about Joss Stone and Floetry, the rest sound very interesting.

BTW...why isn't there any good Cantonese R&B? The closest I've come is a really poppy sounding Stephanie Cheng, I probably am looking in the wrong places there has got to be somebody.

Hysterical!!!!!1111 😀

BTW, I'd muder all of you in your sleep with a rusty spoon if Ayumi Hamasaki asked me to.

I'm sure there is, as I've accidentally dled it before...but I immediately delete it, so I couldn't tell you who it was. Depending on "vibe" you're searching for Joss Stone wasn't a bad suggestion, as her new album's pretty good...but she's more of a Janis kind of singer. David Tao has a pretty varied appeal...he sings in Mandarin, and his last album was more experimental than before, since it's like a mix of rock and R&B, with the requisite cpop crooning thrown in.

MC Solaar is a french rapper who has a bit more rhythm than your average popular US rapper.

Les Nubians have done a couple of sweet Sade covers.

Fine...maybe not R&B, just no more of this ballad, techno, early 90's sounding music.
