Looking for some decent video/audio editing software

I wont be doing anything too crazy, just mashing up songs, and messing around with some videos.

What would be a good value for some basic editing?

I would get sound forge first, you may not need premiere. Sound forge has some editing features for video . It isn't as complete as premiere for video but it may be enough for simple editing.

Have you tried Audacity for audio editing yet? It's free!

The Beta version has always worked fine for me, and the program has enough features to get me by whatever small audio tasks I've had to do.

If you're a video noob, check out powerdirector. I think the interface is a little easier to understand if you have no idea what you're doing.
