Looking for some books...

I know I could use google, but I'd rather get direct opinions of people here about what books to buy to learn to read/write other languages. I'd like to get a head-start on it now, so that once I start college I'll at least be some-what ready. The languages I'm most interested in learing are Spanish, Italian and German. If you know of any books that could help me with these, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, ATOT.

I clicked here thinking you were going to talk about Linguistics, not Languages. 🙁

But if you're looking for a book on linguistics, I enjoyed Transformational Grammar by Andrew Radford. It's a little Chomsky-ish, but I think it's interesting. Kinda. 😉

The most German you'll ever need to ask anyone: Wie schneidet ein sein Handgelenk?

Not sure on the last word...but it looks like "How do I slice/cut my wrists?"

If so...

Edited for clarity. =]

German isn't so hard. Just order like, some books, from like, a book company or something. Bol.com is awesome over here.

I've taken spanish courses based on the paso-a-paso and the ven conmigo series of books. Both were acceptable, but I'd give the edge to the ven conmigo series of books simply because I've used their workbooks and they seem helpful. For slightly higher level study, the encuentros maravillosos book was pretty good.

Spanish should be an easy learn. I've been bilingual my entire life (English, French) so it's already hard-wired into me to be able to pick additional languages. I know some Spanish, I could understand what a person is saying, but I couldn't answer.
