Looking for some book recommendations...

I've got a few Books-a-Million gift cards to use but there's nothing out right now that I'm just dying to read. Even browsing the Top 100 books at Amazon, I didn't see anything that interests me that I haven't already read.

I'm a huge fan of Dan Brown and have really enjoyed all his books (especially The DaVinci Code as well as Angles & Demons). I don't enjoy Sci-Fi books, but am always open to anything.

The past few books I've finished were mainly WW2 historical works (Band of Brothers, Flags of our Fathers, ect), but this time it's gonna be fiction.

Here are a few possibilities:

The Dark Tower, Stephen King - starting out with DT1....worth getting?
Tom Clancy - not read any of his books, but they seem interesting
Michael Crichton - I've read the Jurassic Park series and Andr. Strain - any other good ones?

Finally, I've heard "The Rule of Four," which claims to be similar to The DaVinci Code, is crap.

the kite runner. (sooner or later someone is gonna read it and agree with me. 🙂 )

The Dark Tower series is an absolute must. Clancy's stuff isn't bad. Check out Red Storm Rising. I've enjoyed most of Crichton's stuff so you can't really go wrong there imo. Also check out Black house from King. Really enjoyed that book.

Get the "Summer of Faulkner" set that Oprah put out for her bookclub. 3 great Faulkner novels. I'm an english major, so I have to recommend the classics ;P

I just finished Koontz's 'The Face' and loved it.

I was a huge Koontz fan growing up but haven't read a book of his in years. Any other Koontz books you recommend?

That was only my second Koontz book. I read 'Seize the Night' and didn't understand why people liked his work so much. 'The Face' made me understand. If you've read a lot of his older books then perhaps you should recommend something to me. 😛

I've been on a Lincoln Child/Douglas Preston tear lately. I like their stuff.

Clancy is always reliable, I also like Dale Brown in the same vein.

Go for it. I thought it was a fun series, just wish I hadn't had to wait for each installment while it was being written

Used to be a big fan, but haven't read his in a while. Might want to start with some of the old ones, Clear and Present Danger. Patriot Games, and Without Remorse

I really liked Sphere, give it a try.

Someone mentioned Child and Preston, I started with their Relic. Some of their newer works aren't up to the quality.

If you're up for some war sci-fi, then I'd recommend Armor by John Steakley, the classic Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlen, or Forever Peace by Joe Haldeman. If you're willing to venture even further into the genre, Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan blew me away with it's Cyberpunk approach.
Slant by Greg Bear was my first introduction to military-grade nano, a concept which still makes my heart race.
