hi,

well i want to get a video capture card for my computer and the hauppauge pvr250 seems to fit the bill best for me. The only drawback is that i have read many negative reviews about the software that comes with it. Somebody recently posted about using beyond tv as a software substitute so i checked it out. it turns out they sell their software with their own hardware version of the wintv250pvr, it is called the wintv250btv. They have a comparison of the two at http://store.snapstream.com/btv-pvr-250btv.html at the bottom of the page. I was just wondering why beyon tv's product is so much cheaper. Will it perform the same as the original 250pvr? the only difference i notice is that the beyond tv version does not come with a remote.

any advice to help me make a good decision would be much appreciated. Thanks

really? cool i'll have to look into that.
I want my unit to work well in Canada. More importantly i want to be able to record TV and DVDs in high quality. Beyond TV seems like a pretty powerful program.

I've heard the regular PVR250 is better than the PVR250-BTV (they're *not* exactly the same card; the BTV version uses a different chipset). Note the comment at the bottom of the page you linked:

The Hauppauge WinTV-PVR250BTV is also known as the Hauppauge "Roslyn" (based on the Conexant Blackbird).

You might want to pick up a Hauppauge PVR150-MCE instead. They're the new model replacing the 250, and are significantly cheaper.
