Country of origin : USA
Budgets 400-500 range
Useage: Gaming in the MMO fps areas.
I've always used AMD but not totally put off by Intel of need be in terms of bang for buck OS : Win 7 64 bit but I have access to 8 if optimal.

This is what i have picked out so far. I have an existing pc with a 640 w psu, and some hdd's as well.

GPU: EVGA SSC 01G-P4-3652-KR GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card . newegg 139

CPU:AMD FX-6200 Processor, 3.8 6 Socket AM3 -FD6200F... $134.99 AMAZON

Mobo: BIOSTAR A960A3+ AM3+ AMD RX881 ATX AMD Motherboard NEW EGG 59.99. This mobo has ide support thus why chosen. But also the reason for the SSD.

Ram: Team Xtreem Dark Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TXD38192M1600HC9DC- 39$ NEW EGG

SSD: (possibly adding this, my boot HDD is an old ide drive) ADATA USA Premier Pro 2.5-Inch 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive ASP900S3-64GM-C 74$ AMAZON

PSU: XPOWER 650W

The monitor I'm not sure about its a Polaroid HDTV with 1080p support 19'inch.
Suggestions? I'd really like to keep it as frugal as possible.

Can you tell us who you are buying from, prices for each item, and your monitor resolution? Are all your HDDs IDE or some SATA? What is the make/model of your PSU?

I'd get a Athlon II X4 750K instead: costs a bit less, and can overclock pretty competently to get roughly the base power of the FX-6300.

Also, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use an IDE drive with modern motherboards--they're strictly SATA.

Also I won't do much in the terms of overclocking maybe a a little extra push on the CPU but nothing insane obviously.

I updated the original post with asked info.

Ah, okay. I would say that there isn't much you can do, unless you can find an Intel board with IDE support (Intel does better single threaded, so is a bit better for games and so on).

Oh yeah, and the FX-6300 at Newegg is only $5 more than the the FX-6200 at Amazon.

Ive been getting the vibe about Intel being better in the gaming realm but I know little about the I series what would be some suggestions in the same price points for a CPU and is the performance that much better because if so I can bend in regards to AMD and Intel

Well, I'd look for an IDE Intel motherboard first or factor in the roughly $15-20 cost of an IDE PCI card. Pricewise, you're looking at getting an i3-3220 processor for $130 and a motherboard for $70 or so.

What's the feasibility of ocing the I3.

And also why is a dual core processor superior to a six core?

Programs must be specifically coded to use extra cores.

i3 overclocking is extremely limited. It requires base clock overclocking.

Individual core speed is faster on the i3.

The i3 isn't better in all games though. The FX-6300 does better in Diablo 3 and Skyrim.

This is a bad comparison because you picked the FX-8350 instead of the FX-6300. Here is the correct comparison.

That aside, while saying that the FX-6300 does better in Diablo 3 and Skyrim is technically true, the actual difference is 4.6% for Skyrim and 10.3% for Diablo 3. Not to mention the fact that both benchmarks are getting around 200 FPS, so any difference is completely moot.

Any, OP I would not under any circumstances us an IDE drive in a new build. Not only does it restrict your motherboard choices, but it is horrendously slow compared to a new drive. Using it is like getting a new Ferrari and putting it up on blocks in the driveway.

Here's what I would do:

i3 3225 $130
ASRock Z77 Pro4 + DDR3 1600 8GB combo $110
7850 2GB $185 AR
Seagate 500GB $50 AP
Corsair CX500 $30 AR
Total: $505 AR AP

This skips the SSD because 64GB is too small to really do much with and you need a new HDD anyway.

I think the i3 is a better gaming CPU because of it's superior single-threaded performance. However, the CPU/mobo/RAM are $240 together vs. $234 for the AMD setup that you picked out, so you could go either way there.

I have a 500gb HDD and a 350gb HDD, both sata, already installed the SSD was purely for the OS.
