Just want to delete/cut out about 30 seconds in the middle of a 3.39GB AVI file. Free is best as this is a one time thing. Its my own video.

Thanks

Try XMedia Recode. It even has a portable version
1. Open the file in the program
2. Select the file in the list in the xmedia recode window
3. Select the correct format (if you dont want to reencode select the same format as the file then set the mode in the audio and video tab to copy)
4. In the Filters/Preview tab set you starting and ending frame.
5. Set your destination folder
6. Add to queue then Encode

AVIdemux http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

I've used the program for years to do what you describe.

drop your file in

set end marker at beginning of section you want cut and save file as 'A'

go back and set beginning marker at end of section you want cut and save file as 'B'

close current project ctrl+w

drag file 'A' in, drag file 'B' in and save final file.

You can just select A(start) and B(end) of the section you want to cut out and press del it will delete the selected area only, then save the file.

I tried Avidemux but it wont load my AVI not sure why that is it plays in other programs. I also have a smaller WMV version that I was able to load and edit the spot very easily but it wont let me save, says muxer error. and then Save failed. Is that the encoding?

I also tried XMedia Recode and encoded it and it saved 10 files of the "cut " I wanted to delete. lol I guess I could cut out each side of the file and append the two?

I had very little time this evening will take more tomorrow And thanks for the detailed instructions

that is strange that it's not accepting an AVI file of all things.

I've never tried editing a WMV file with avidemux. There may not be a proper muxer available under "Output Format" in which case you would have to re-encode the file to save the edit using the "Video Output" and "Audio Output" drop downs.

I split the large AVi file with mediaX Recode minus the part I wanted to delete. I couldn't figure how to append them in Recode but I was able to load them into Avidemux (must of been the size) and easily appended them together. All done.

Since the original videos audio was only 1 channel, eventually I want to copy the audio to the second channel just so it sounds more normal. But for now it's watchable. Thanks again for all the help.
