My GF recently aced the first 2 exams for SoA certification and is now preparing for the 3rd exam in November.

I currently work at Cal Berkeley and have been able to get most of the study materials and textbooks through the inter-library loan system.

Anyhoo, this one study manual seems to be unavailable or on permanent reserve (way down in UCLA). She can't find it on eBay and the cost is $200.

So, I was wondering if any ATers have this manual in their possession and would if unneeded, would be willing to loan it out for the next couple of months or so while she prepares. Of course I'd pay shipping both ways

the manual in question is the ASM study manual for SOA exam 3 (MLC; Multiple Life Contingencies).

Title: Study manual for SOA Exam MLC
Author: Weishaus, Abraham.;Society of Actuaries.;Actuarial Study Materials.;Casualty Actuarial Society.
Publisher: Actuarial Study Materials
Date: c2008.

I believe this is the latest edition, but an earlier edition would be fine, too.

Thanks in advance!

i don't think there are any actuaries that post here, surprisingly. then again all the actuaries i know are either studying for exams or are going out before they start studying again.

Sounds like your GF is breezing through the exams! Sorry that I can't help out here in terms of the manual since I no longer have it.

MLC (or course 3 before they changed the structure) was a tough one that took me 3 times to pass. Good luck to her!

yeah, she's done quite well considering that she's basically teaching herself (she's a math whiz, anyway-fascinated by stats). she passed the first one on her second attempt (9/10, I think) and missed passing it by one point on her first attempt. She passed exam 2 on her first attempt a few weeks ago. She's currently debating whether or not to do the 3rd and 4th exam at the same time, as they now allow.

Would you know of another place to search for the manual? She's been using the actuarial forums and the usual places have turned up nothing.
