Looking for small laptop what are my options?

Ok here I go. I am in the research phase right now. I am wanting some thing that is pretty powerfull (C2D ~2ghz) and small.
I really like the new features on the XPS 12" model from Dell but have you seen the $$ they want for one of them lately?

I have Vista business to put on one so the OS is really a non-issue. Unless it had ultimate then I would really consider it and add some $$ to it.

I like the quick launch to run DVD's without turning it on.
I am not really looking for something that can run games that much either. I would like bluetooth built in.

Where is the 12" laptop roundup?

Thanks.

Well, I know that we were having a similar conversation in another thread. If you want to go Windows only then there is a nice ASUS that was talked about. If you want to try out OS X, then the macbook is fairly good priced, and the battery life is good, plus OS X boots wicked fast, so starting the computer to watch a movie is minor.

not switching over to OS X yes it might be better etc. But I need a windows pc. Where is this thread @?

Macs are just glorified PCs with an OSX blessing now.

😉

Anyone know if you can run Vista on Boot Camp? If so, a regular MacBook might work well for you.

I like the M1210 also. If it's a bit out of your budget, thy not consider picking up a nice used one? I've seen several that are packed with a dual core CPU and 2GB RAM for ~$1300. No sense in giving Dell upwards of $2k for one when you can just let someone else take the depreciation hit and extend the warranty yourself. 🙂

my friend has a dell m1210. why are you getting? it for screen size or weight? because the laptop is as thick (thicker?) than my hp dv2000t and weighs like half a pound lighter.

you said you wanted power but if you're willing to sacrifice, dell small business has the dell d420 which is actually small and light. sony has a couple small ones (though not too cheap) and asus has some small ones (not sure on price but i doubt they're less than $1800).

did a pricegrabber search...Sony Vaio C150P/B it has decent parts in it (13.3", C2D 1.66, 2gb ram, 120gb 5400rpm, dvd+/-, free upgrade to vista business if you can return your copy). i do hear the C (and N) series are the budget lines for sony so i'm not sure that means anything

toshiba has a Satellite U205 that's 12.1". here's the newegg link. again, search on pricegrabber, etc. to find better pricing.

lenovo has the x60. it's like $2000 though. is there a budget you have in mind?

btw, i didn't check to see if they have bluetooth or not but i'm sure they do.

the macbook is light weight and has decent battery life. windows isn't as stable as on a pc laptop, though, and i really hate their keyboard design but the black one camoflauges it in so i'm cool with the blackbook.

anything more specific you can say about what you need?

thanks for the info. I am checking things out.
I said dell because I have an account there. The latitude is pretty nice too, but I think they are about the same if not more than the 1210.
What I am looking for is smallness. Dont really care how thick. Just a small footprint. I can always add a monitor while on my desk. Something you can handle with 1 hand carrying open and not a huge monster.

I would really like to get into a C2D 1.8 or 64 X2 system. I currently have a P4m.
Need DVDRW 80+gb hdd. 1-2gb mem. the m1210 has upto 4gb. That is more than I have seen on most laptops.
