Hey everyone, this looked like the best forum for this question. Anyways...

I own an Area 51M Alienware laptop. The CD drive died on it and I'm looking to get a replacement drive, however my current drive appears to be an anomoly because it has a port in the back of it that is in the center that goes into a male port on the inside of the machine which is also in the center.

I'm having a hard time finding a replacement drive that has a center port in it, is there something I can do to move where the port is located? or am I stuck finding the exact same drive with the chance that it too may in fact have the port to the right or left on the back side?

Please help if you understand what the heck I'm talking about.

it may be like some of the dell stuff, try taking apart the cd drive, it may be in an enclosure that will accept a normal cd drive.

I don't understand, are you saying that the enclosure might be restricting the movement of the port on the CD drive? I can actually move that?
