i'm not looking to overclock or anything just want to rejuvenate my pc since those core 2 duo chips are dropping in price. what do you recommend. also i notice the ones on newegg seem to only handle slower ram, would they work with faster ram? i'm just asking cause i see plenty of good deals on faster ram that is cheaper than the older stuff it seems. thanks.

Look for the Intel 865 or the via p4m800 pro version 2.0 chipsets. Either one works with agp. The via version works with either ddr or ddr2. Some 865 boards don't work with core2 duo cpus, so check cpu support lists carefully, and bios versions before ordering. Asrock or Ecs makes most of these boards.

Do you have DDR RAM or DDR2? If you have DDR Ram then the ASrock Dual VSTA will give very good performance with DDR and has both an AGP and PCI Express slot. It will also work with faster RAM, but its a nice board as you can still use DDR, with almost no performance penalty.

I have sitting here - just waiting for the price drops. I will be getting either an E4300 or E4400, since this board will easily overclock these to a 266 Mhz bus speed.
