Looking to get a new washer and dryer (I hope).

Wanted to know where is the best place to research/review models etc.

Wife washes clothes virtually every day so I am looking for something solid and durable.

Thanks

Greg

PS - recommendations from anandtechers works as well.

i now go to epinions.com or use a buddy's Consumer Reports.

stay as far away as possible from Bosch washer/dryers - they may have worked the kinks out, but we had serious issues with the plastic around the controls cracking and a terrible moldy smell in the washer.

luckily, we had an extended warranty from lowes.. so we ket calling them back.. after the 4th visit they were supposed to replace the washer - they refused stating the mold smell did not interfere with the mechanics of washing clothes.

we went round and round, so I conferenced in Bosch - they had a history of all my service visits.. i was pissed... after abotu 10 minutes of fighting, the Bosch lady said they would replace my washer with a new unit.

it's been 2 months or so, and everything is going fine. however, i have a real bad taste in my mouth from Lowes/Bosch - from now on, it will be Costco for us.

We have a Bosch Dishwasher (not sure the model, hidden control panel, it was $800 when we purchased it last year) and it's amazing. It is the best non-commercial dishwasher we have ever seen. I make beer at home, and anyone who has ever done this knows what the pot looks like after boiling for an hour, with hops baked on and such. Throw that sucker in the Bosch and 30 minutes later it's spotless. Plus it's so quiet you cannot hear it from 10 feet away.

I cannot say enough good things about it.

But, this thread was clothes washer and dryer. Just have to post my thoughts on Bosch :p

I would agree regarding their dishwashers.. but paying ~1000 for a clothes washer, I didn't expect to have the problems we had. Looking at epinions.com, many other people reported the exact same problems we had.

the repair guy said it was a manufacturing defect and Bosch should recall them, but they hadn't.
