So far, I see lots of problems being reported by people. I was set on the U2413, but then started reading reports of excess bleed, and Dell having the 'pink tint' problem again.

There are some better rated 6 bit monitors, but I currently have and appreciated the color gamut for 8 bit monitors. I likely the Dell because it tests out well @ TFTCentral as being a capable unit for gaming (Class 1, by their definition). So a fair number of 24" monitors are getting decent reviews, but customers are running into problems and issues trying to return units with problems (a slight 'pink' tint isn't necessary a 'defect'

TIA!

PS: looking for 1920 x 1200, I want the extra bit of vertical space when programming. My SyncMaster 2243BWX is finally given up the ghost (I have a bright blue vertical line running the screen ~1/3 from the right edge of the monitor. I've try a fresh windows install, two video cards, two DVI cables and two different drivers - so I'm pretty sure it's the monitor.

Only LG is making 24" 19x12 IPS panels, so you don't really have a ton of options. If you want an 8 bit panel you can buy a U2410 or similar last generation model based on the LM240WU4 panel (Asus PA246Q, HP LP2475w, etc), or you can buy the current generation U2413 based on the LM240WU9 panel. Asus will eventually have their own model based on the current gen LG panel, the PA249Q, but that hasn't started shipping yet.

Oh, bummer. Samsung used to make a really nice 24", but that was a while ago (I kick myself once and a while for not getting one). So LG has no competition - no wonder they have some quality problems :(

Thanks for the info!

Ahh okay. So Samsung does make 24" panels, but they're not an IPS technology member. Samsung's technology is PLS (Plane-to-Line Switching), which is supposed to be similar to IPS, but I don't have any experience with it. Their 24" PLS monitor is the S24A850DW.

I bought a bargain bin 23" 1920x1080 LG 6 bit e-IPS for 130$ and it's still way better then any TN I have I know it gets ripped apart for pixel response times but I must be pretty immune to the effect.

I think he may mean the U2412M, which is a 6bit eIPS panel.

I'm running two of these. The only issue I have with it is the amount of glow. My older 1905 doesn't have nearly the amount of glow the 2412 does.

I suppose I don't need IPS per se, just the wide viewing angles and generally better image quality that I've noticed with IPS displays (coming from using high quality Sony CRTs, back in the day, I get eye fatigue using TN monitors).

There isn't a U2410M, there's only the U2140. And that's 8bit H-IPS.
I think most low(er) end IPS panels are 6bit+FRC including the models you've listed. Only very recently we're seeing true 8bit AMVA panels & for IPS I believe only professional displays, 10bit or higher, have a wider color gamut than most consumer oriented panels being sold today including some of the high(er) end models.

edit : I stand corrected, the dell u2410 is indeed a true 8bit panel but seems to be relatively old as it was released in 2009 ~

Yes, I'm leaning towards that, ATM. Some folks are b*tching about Dell service (which used to be stellar) - sign of the times I guess.

I have actually had zero issues with Dell service. But that could be because we have a business contract with them.

I like my U2412M's quite a bit. No big complaints about them.

Buy it from Amazon if you have Prime.

I do, and I would, but it's $70 more Amazon right now. I used to go mainly with Newegg, but they've gotten kind of lame, so I go with Amazon unless their price s*cks. Hmm, don't know if they'd price match???
