Looking for quieter air cooling solution

Hey,

I have an Ultra Dragon full tower case with 4 80mm fans. I could add a 5th one if i wanted but the thing is noisy enough the way it is. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some quiet yet efficient fans for me to buy. I know Panaflo's seem to be the fan of choice around here, but I would prefer that the fans had Red LEDs to give my case some eye candy.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just a thought, but have you heard of SpeedFan? It's free. I'm just not one for controllers, but if you "need" a controller I've read the Vantec and Nexus are nice products. Check on the forums here; there are many a posts about fan controllers. 😉

those coolermaster rifles are cheaper at svc.com they also have lots of fan controller you can look at.
i have the sunbeam. and i know their coolermaster ones are like always $5.

edit: speedfan is limited on how many fan you can plug into your motherboard. so thats a con right there already. if he wanted 5 fans.

Not necesarily. I used a splitter for my scenario: therefore if your have 2 mobo headers than you can use 4 fans and have them ALL automatically controlled to your liking w/out having to mess with knobs and turning them up and down when you game, browse, etc.....My mobo has 3 fan headers therefore=6 fans controlled all by SF. Not bad for free. edit- sorry it wasn't totally free. I had to buy some sodder to make my 3 pin Y connectors, but you can buy them as well>http://www.pctoys.com/840556000037.html

do not spend any more money on a dragon type case. its made for cooling, not silence. its trying to polish a turd. i've had 2 hooked up to fan controllers and susch, it doesn't help much. compared to a stock sonata its night and day. they are designed different from the ground up. tossing money at it is just a waste. you need 120mm fans on rubber grommits, thick metal case panels and hd's mounted on rubber grommits..and as few direct paths for noise to leak out as possible. at best a fan controller, it will let you lower your rpm, but its still not going to do much. and panaflos are not magic.

I understand Its not built or marketed to be a quiet case, but maybe some modification could help. The fans that are in there now prolly hover around 32db so anything would probably help.

right now I have 2 fans in the back, one on the side, and one in the front. I have always thought that maybe repositioning that side fan to the front (where there is an extra mount) might help the noise a bit since it wouldn't be directly on the side, cause I probably hear that one the most. I would prolly just leave a fan grill there as a vent.

If i needed extra cooling for the graphics card I could get a pci slot fan, or a different fan solution for the card.

right now the cpu idles around 31C so I can't complain about the temp. But if there really isn't anything I can do to quiet this thing down a bit, I will live. I can't hear them when I an gaming anyway. which is why a simple fan controler might be in order, to simply turn them down when I am not gaming. Someday I will change over to water cooling, but I am just not ready to dive into that yet (no pun intended).

well if your cpu is already that chilled, you can afford to sacrifice some cooling for silence. remove the front fans for instance. those are noisey, and fans in series don't give you double air flow, they only help achieve the flow of a single fan better if theres a lot of resistence. the side fan helps with video cards that need it. turn it off and see how it goes. unless youve got loads of heat monsters you can do with less. a psu +2 80mm should be enough for many setups, even with lowered rpms from fan controller.
