looking for quiet fans

Juno

Lifer
in summer 2003, i built a pre-modded computer with white led fans for a showcase. but now i'm getting older. i already replaced the pre-modded mid tower case with a solid black chieftec full tower case. so i'm looking for quiet fans to replace the white led fans. i don't want to see any lights coming out of the case.

i'm looking for quiet 80mm fans with no color leds.

any recommendations?

Panaflo 21db @ 24 cfm. I don't know. I've never used them. I've got Sunon's in my case right now (replacing all 10 of them), and I've used CoolerMaster fans all the time before this case... Never had a problem with any one of them. Although I've never tried using quiet fans though either. I'll let you know when my next batch of fans comes in. I'm grabbing some 120mm A.C. fans from Performance PCs, and they should be quieter than the ones I currently have. But I don't know how quiet any of them really are. I can tell you how loud the Sunon 120mm's are pushing 114 cfm though.

A few:
21.8 db @ 23 cfm
13 db (unknown cfm)
21 db @ 27 cfm

You could probably find these fans a bit cheaper (and already sleeved) at Performance PCs, but I can't access the page at work for some reason...
Tas.

hey, something came in my mind. what about panaflo's? asaka's?

Going just off the specs, I'd go for the Vantec (21 db @ 27 cfm). That's hard to beat. There are others, but they have LEDs and such, and aren't what you are looking for...
Tas.

I remember a golden age back when comparing Stealths to L1A's, the L1A's seemed to be preferred on the C&C board here.

I havent tested 80mm's alone without interference from other loud fans but they should be quiet, especially if you feed them 5v.

My 80mm Panaflo L1A starts up at 5v without a problem, tested it when fiddling with my duct.

are sunon's good?

Good, but loud. If you want, I'll send you these when I'm done. 🙂 I'm replacing the 2 120mm and 8 80mm fans in the next few weeks. But they push a lot of air, but are loud.

80mm: 2600 rpm, 33 db, 48.5 cfm
120mm: 3100 rpm, 42 db, 108 cfm

Sidewinder. Im in the UK and have ordered from Sidewinder (US Company) with great success.

Someone might be able to guide you to a cheaper place though.

Also you might consider the 80mm Nexus fans 17db at Jab tech. My Praetorian is a new
case with these installed. I'm also putting in a Seasonic S12 power supply and adding sound absorbing foam to the case sides.

whatever you do, don't get the vantec stealth. I got it, and it's nowhere near 21dBA. They can test fans however they want so that the decibel count comes out the way they want, there is no standardized test. If you want quiet, go with either panaflo's or (even quieter, but at the cost of airflow) nexus. Check out silentpcreview.com for recommended items.

Well there is a standard for testing but Vantec chooses not use it. Most companies that rebadge (Vantec, ThermalTake, SilenX) fans tend to list specs that are too good to be true. Fan manufactures (Delta, Panaflo, Sanyo Denki, Adda) tend to list specs that are far more believable and cheaper since you?re getting it from the source.

As to the OP; the Panaflo L1A is one of the best 80mm fans you can get.

yeah, i'm leaning toward to panaflo l1a's but they are like $7-10 apiece. i only need four fans. don't to spend like $50 included s&h fees for just four fans.

Check these out: NMB Ultra Quiet. Now look at the price 😎

NMB makes great fans also, as a mater of fact they recently merged with Panaflo.
