I'm looking for recommendations on a quiet and reliable PSU.

Parts will be Q6600 + 4GB RAM, Some mobo, and old parts: 7800GTX, DVD drive, 3 hard drives. (36gb raptor + 160gb + 500gb ).

I've read through some threads and seems like Corsair's are recommended. was considering the CORSAIR PS-VX550W. But are they "quiet"? Any other brand/model recommendations? Delta, Cooler Master, Antec?

Also, do all PSU's have 1 year warranty, or do some brands have more?

Not sure there are many power supply companies left that AREN'T quiet. Pretty much everyone has gone the route of 120mm or larger fans and you can pretty much bet that you're getting a quiet enough power supply. Corsairs come with 5 year warranties and like HOOfan said, are known for being quiet. You won't hear a thing until you put your ears up to it.

I've got the corsair 620HX and its very quiet and very reliable and has excellent stable rails. With that said the psu to get now from what I'm hearing is the Enermax Modu82+ 625W its supposed to be better in everyway compared to my corsair, from noise to stability etc here is the review from silentpc http://www.silentpcreview.com/article806-page1.html and its about the same price as the corsair. Not that the corsair is bad :) I love mine and its pretty much dead quiet...

I seam to remember hearing about allot of people having problems with a few Enermax models. Namely the units dieing on them. Stick with Corsair. Besides very few PSu come with a 5 year warenty and Enermax isn't one of them.

HAHA a 625W non-modular Enermax for $34 more than a Modular HX620, that is a no brainer in my opinion, Corsair is a much better value with those prices you quoted.

That's completely untrue. There are tons of LOUD psu's still. Many of which use 120mm fans. Just because it's 120mm doesn't mean the fan spins slowly. Full speed fans suck. Cheap psus use full speed fans. Nuff said.

But corsair uses good fan controllers. So yes for them.
Enermax uses even better ones in the 82+...but their reliability seems more iffy out there.

Yep I'm definitely keen on the Corsair's... not sure I'd need modular so may just opt for the VX550W.

 Here's an example of a power supply that seems good, but that has a noisy 135mm fan.

Also, don't believe manufacturer claims on how quiet their units are. A particular PSU company uses the name "Silencer" on great quality PSUs that can be extremely noisy. Of course that one uses 80mm fans, but 80mm fans can be quiet too, as evidenced by Silent PC Review's inclusion of a handful of PSUs with 80mm fans into their recommended list.

This ...I did not know. In the past 3 years of buying and using power supplies (and I've bought a Thermaltake TR2 470W, used a Cooler Master RealPower 450, bought an Antec SmartPower 2.0, Antec NeoHE 430, Antec Earthwatts 380, Corsair HX520, a 350W Sparkle and a 300W Fortron), I've not gotten a single one that could be qualified as noisy...and I've never spent more than $80 on a power supply thus far...
