Looking for program that will convert video to xvid

That only works with DVDs though, correct? I need something that can convert MPG or other AVI source videos into Xvid.

Edit: I know Virtualdub could do it, but this is for a friend who is not going to be able to figure out Virtualdub on her own. So I'm looking for something simple to use like Dr. Divx, but that outputs to xvid.
