I've used an Epson 600 and a 777. Both work great. The biggest thing I don't like is that the printheads are not removable, but I've never had clogged heads, and I refill them all the time. Heck, the Epson 600 is going on 2 years now, and the generic cartridges in it have taken well over 20 refills.
Lexmarks are supposed to be good too.

if you are going to print alot then stay away from epson the 777/c60 and the 580/c40 are very expensive to run the cartriges are about $40 each, and are NOT refilable (the cratriges have a chip that gets marked everytime the print heat parks like using a prepaid phone card) CDN. your best bet would be a Canon S400 or even a S300 the cartriges are cheap about 12.95 CDN , it prints awsome, its fast, and refillable.

BTW i sell mostly epson in my store besause most people would rather save $15 up front then think of operation costs.

Canon S600, used or a good deal. Prints fast with good text, in color too. Older Apple laser printers can be found used for around $100--make sure you have an external SCSI support or a SCSI to parallel adapter.
