Looking for a P4 Mother Board, orig. liked the Asus P4G8X Deluxe, however I'm begining to feel disheartened that it only suports a max of PC2100 Dual-DDR RAM.

Are there any other P4 MB's on the market, that have 8xAGP, and DDR suport of higher band speeds? Or do I need to start bracing myself for a switch to ASUS A7V8X (AMD based) MB....which very nicely suports pc3200?

Thanks
Chris

What about the GB - SINXP1394 (was GA-8SQ800 Ultra2)

Are there any down falls to this MB?

imho, the granite bay overclocks like a champ, so you can use higher speed memory and overclock it
or you can use the SIS 655 which is going to be launched shortly

The P4G8X board uses dual channel PC2100, which means that it's basicly PC2100X2 and has performance above PC3200 most of the time.

After all, it has double the bandwidth of PC2100 making it more like PC4200. You shouldn't base your decision on memory bandwidth, though.

I'd say go with a nice i845PE board, which officially supports PC2700, has pretty good performance, and will support any CPU up to 3.06GHZ+ like a chance with very respectable performance. Don't get caught up on memory types. The A7V8X supports PC3200 yes, but the Athlon can hardly use it.

FishTankX has this one.... Granite Bay is an excellent, but horrendously expensive chipset. The motherboards are in the $200 range... which is just too much. What will you be doing with the computer? If its just a gaming setup, I second his recommendation to pick up an 845PE board and get some good PC2700 (or 3200 if the cash is there... and with what you save by not going GB, it should be)..... and buy you a GOOD video card (if you check, that's usually the limitation to most modern games.

The only exception I can think where I would recommend something OTHER than a 845PE board is if you're doing high-end workstation stuff (computational modelling) which is REALLY bandwidth senstive. Then a i850E or Granite Bay solution might be justified.... but most of the people who REALLY need it, already know that. :)

Anyway... best of luck!
