Looking for optimization utility

I am looking for an optimization utility that will optimize my hard drives without the headache that comes along with the Norton Utilites and that is more effective than the utility that is built into Windows. Is there a stand alone utility that can do this? Thanks in advance.
 
I love Norton Speed Disk but have issues with Symantec products - system hangs on boot, systray performed illegal operation etc. Trying to find something freestanding.
 
You can get just the Speed disk program, without Norton Utilities. As a stand alone product it works great..
 
I looked over their site and didn't see it by itself. Of course it is late and I probably overlooked it. I will do some more digging. Thanks for your help!
