I'm not sure if this is the correct forum so I figured I'd try it here.

Let me start off by saying that I know I could assemble a similar system for the same price or less.

That being said, I'm looking for opinions on the Dell 420 XPS. I'm primarily a gamer and this is looking like a pretty good deal. There's currently a $500 off that will allow me to get a complete system for $1200ish including the 22" SP2208 monitor, free shipping and a $50 gift card to boot.

I'm looking at the Q6600 vs. E6850, mainly because as I understand it, the Dell systems don't allow for any overclocking. That rules out going for Q6600 @3ghz, hence the E6850.

Here's the loadout:

Adobe Elements Studio Adobe Elements Studio for XPS? 420

Don't sweat the video card. I picked up a BFG 8800GT OC for Christmas so I'd be replacing the HD2400 pretty much immediately.

Aside from that this seems like a pretty good deal at the price. Am I way off the mark here or not?

Thanks for your opinions.

That's not a bad deal with the monitor included. Aside from building your own which you've already ruled out I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on a pre-built PC.

Edit: Just saw this over in Hot Deals. While the PC is a great buy at >$900 I'm not sure if the monitor is worth the $330 added on. You can find better deals on ~22" screens quite frequently these days. Just an opinion.

I was looking at the Samsung 226BW over at the Egg however, when I compared, the Dell SP2208WPF seemed to have almost identicle specs. It's probably the same panel.

I could save a bit more going that route since it would remove the taxes that I will get charged by Dell and there is a MIR at the Egg on the Samsung.

Beyond that, the 420XPS seems like a very solid offer. The only thing I'm waiting to verify is the powersupply size. I've heard there are two offerings; one in the 375W range and another in the 425W range. I want to be sure I'm getting the larger one but I'm not sure if it is CPU or GPU specific.

The 8800GT is offered as a GPU option for the 420 on Dell's site so I'd imagine you'd have no problems with the included power supply. Dell's xps PSU's are supposingly high quality too.

Barring any extra addition of add-in cards and Hard-Drives, It should work fine.
