Hello all,

I keep a guide on another forum, My Guide , where I try to help out folks looking to build computers.

My section on AMD chipsets has never been very thorough, which wasn't an issue 6 months ago. It certainly is now that AMD has become competitive again.

I need to figure out which chipsets are still worthwhile for new builders. 790GX/FX are of course no-brainers. What about the others?

770?
780V??
760G?

Of course, I have been to AMD's website. I need some user opinions and any links you think I may have missed.

Thanks!

790X is pretty much like 790FX except without all the overclocking bells and whistles, and a fair bit cheaper. It's what I would suggest to someone who just wants a budget motherboard for a relatively fast computer but is not going to optimize their BIOS and overclock their processor.

I don't know much about the 770, except that it's an even lower end chipset that doesn't support CrossfireX.

I'd go for the 790GX, the boards can be found for as low as $60, offer about everything you could want (except two pci-express 16x slots, but 2 8x pci express slots isn't bad) and you get the integrated graphics so when the computer is low end you can gut it, or you can sell your graphics card for another and not be headless for a week.

It's starting to look like I need to change tactics and get some more sites doing AMD motherboard reviews :p
