Our band has been writing and practicing for the last 3 months and we are starting to settle on a sound. Any input on the style? Is this something you would listen to? Who do you think we sound like? What genre would we be in?
I'm mainly interested in input on song #1, Melancholy Mistress. Be warned, the farther down the list you get the rougher the songs.

Btw, I did a post last fall concerning a free performance we had done with 'megaphone man', since then he is gone and we have reformed. We are doing almost all originals now.

John Mellencamp meets the Who. It's alright. I don't listen to much vocal driven music, but I like your sound.

Music doesnt sound that bad from a technical standpoint, but the recording/mixing is absolutely awful. It sounds like they were mic'd with a playschool mic and recorded in an underwater garage.

Yeah, all of the recordings were done with two mic's placed in the room, so definitely not studio quality. We have concentrated more on writing and song structure. We think we are close to doing a more studio like recording on those first 3 or 4 songs. I'm the drummer btw.

Thanks for the input

Speaking as a fellow drummer, your drumming is pretty decent, I hear some slight hesitation at times, but im bad about that myself unless playing to a metronome. Most people I know are as well.

In a lot of ways I think my drumming has stagnated. Playing with these guys has helped in that area as they help push me out of my comfort zone, but I still have a lot of work to meet my own expectations. Confidence has always been an issue and I will overcome it! :)

Its really not that bad, I mean you arent crazy flashy, but that really isnt neccesary. Theres not much worse in music than a single member of a band being a great player and feeling the need to show off all the time, it really takes away from the band as a whole
