Good day everyone,

I'm about to upgrade my i7 4770k to i7 4790k, I currently have an ATX board and need to move to a mATX board, so I'm changing CPU at the same time.

I'm wondering what do you guys recommend for mild overclocking, I was looking at some z87 boards that were recommended for the i4770k but they're either almost impossible to find or they're over 200$.

I was leaning towards the ASROCK Z97M OC FORMULA.

I know the z87 OC was highly recommended and the z97 OC is not the same grade.

Wondering what you guys think or recommend?

Thank you for your input.

Probably a decent board if you like the color scheme.

Mild overclocking as in just setting it to the 4.4ghz max turbo on all 4 cores?

I went with the GIGABYTE GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 when I was looking. Seemed to be the best bang for the buck mATX board at the time of my purchase.

I'm contemplating selling my 4690k and picking up a 4790k currently.

I heard lots of people complain about color schemes but honestly it's the one thing that is NOT a buying factor for me, color means absolutely nothing for my build. Just looking for a good board.

Regarding overclocking, I don't know what this chip is capable of, I'm cooling on air with 212 Evo. I'm actually debating of I even should go with the K CPU out just stick with stock non-k and save a few bucks.

Opinions?

4790 non-K is a 400MHz slower than the K version. Stay away.

The 4790K is effectively a 4.2GHz chip with a non-Z board and a 4.4GHz one with a non-Z board with MCE enabled. At these clocks low cost high value coolers like the Hyper 212 will already struggle to contain the temps down. If you want to tinker with a Z87/97 board and better cooling, all the power to you just don't be disappointed when the results despite all the (much) added cost. We have warned ya.

That's what I noticed afterwards, I finally settled on i7 4790k + ASrock z97m Pro4 board.

With local suppliers the options were limited.

I don't think I'll be overclocking but I still chose the "K" due to higher frequency by default.
