I have an AMD V4900 right now, and I think it is starting to have issues. The screen will freeze and Windows 10 will pop up a message saying the display driver stopped responding and recovered. Has happened more and more over the past month or so. Seems to be mostly related to Firefox. Figured I would give another video card a shot.

Dell Optiplex 9020 with the stock power supply, so I can't go crazy. I don't play games, no CAD, maybe some videos from Plex here and there. Have 2x25" Dell LCDs at 2560x1440. Would prefer something as quiet as possible and hopefully 1GB or more.

How much are you willing to spend? It would be overkill but a GTX950 would foot the bill. They sell versions that don't even need the supplemental 6-pin power plug.

Not sure that would fit in my case. Thinking about going to a small form factor.....so I think I might want to go with something that is half-height.

I know....I don't want much!

Cheapest, new option that I could find.

SAPPHIRE R7 250 1GB 11215-06-20G
Product Page
Newegg Listing

  • Uses only PCI slot power (75W or less)
  • Low-profile
  • DVI for one panel, Mini-displayport for the other
  • $106

Could get an used older card with two DVI outs and throw it in. No guarantees on power and/or functionality. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it ticks the boxes.

The U2515H he has don't have DVI-D Like any modern Dell monitor, DVI is a almost dead.
And the Dual link to displayPort are either limited to 1080p ("Dual link)" or plain false advertisement.. hard to find a legit DL DVI to DP adapter.

The display does have MST, but you need a card with DP1.2 and I don't think MST on DP1.2 can send 2X 1440p60Hz.

Looking at the U2515H (the only 1440P 25" monitor on dell's current lineup as far as I know)

Using MST *if* I understand correctly you can connect additional 1440p display to the U2515H so GPU with 1 DP might work if its 1.2 version.

Wait, are you building new? Hmm. There are motherboards with displayport built in if you go Skylake. Not sure you'll find one with dual DP that easily. BUUUT, you might be able to. Or, HDMI to DP can work OK.

Can you daisy chain with your setup?

This. I do on my dual or triple U2414H.

Specs for U2515H:

Connectivity
2 HDMI(MHL) connector
1 Mini DisplayPort
1 DisplayPort (version 1.2)
1 DisplayPort out (MST)
1 Audio Line out (connect your speakers)
5 USB 3.0 ports - Downstream (4 at the back, 1 with battery charging)
1 USB 3.0 port - Upstream

According to the internet your Dell Optiplex 9020 should have 2 DisplayPort connections.
And if its only one any decently modern motherboard with DP connection should have a DP1.2 connection so you might as well try the Daisy chain and see if you can run both screens at 1440p60 like that.
