BTW, upgrading my Athlon II x4 635 to an i3-2100.

Passmark rates as follows (all 1GB except my old 4850):

GPU____PM___Cost
4850 > 1334 ~ $??
5770 > 1652 ~ $145
5850 > 2492 ~ $140 (Sapphire) <= seems a good choice.
6850 > 2828 ~ $165 AMIR (XFX)

May buy Portal 2 and/or Bioshock 2

Does the 6k series offer benefits over the 5k series?

I just did the same upgrade and went with the 5850. You won't be disappointed!

BTW: the 5850 is faster than the 6850 in most games and this particular model (the Sapphire Xtreme) actually uses less power.

i dont think moving from a quad to a sb duallie is a significant upgrade. id rather save the money and spend it on a better vga card, or save money for a longer time to get a better cpu like the i5 2500K.

the 5850 extreme @ 140 is also a terrific value.

I already bought the cpu and motherboard due to a build order that fell through. That's ok as I need to upgrade my gf's computer anyway. I'll just give her my 635 which by some benches compares rather well to the 2100. Since my pc is almost always on I prefer the energy savings of SB.
