So I'm looking for new speakers. The max I can afford is the Z-5500 which is about $220 right now.

I'm wondering if I should stay with the Pro Media because I'm not a heavy gamer. How does the sound quality (music wise) compare between the two?

Also, I need a new soundcard, looking for something really inexpensive and good for music. I have onboard sound right now.

So this is music mainly?

If so, a higher quality 2.1 set might be a better choice.

Heads up courtasy of Astrallite refurb Klipsch iFi for $199

That would probably be right up your alley.

If it's mainly music you're looking for, 2.0/2.1 will give you the soundstage intended and you wont run into issues with surround sound effects degrating the quality.

Do you have Promedias now? If so, I'd say stick with those.

Chaintech AV-710 is a cheap card that does music well.

Thanks for the input. I don't have Promedias, just some cheap Dell speakers. What's the difference between the iFi and the regular Promedias if any? Because except for the color and the iPod stand, I don't se anything different.

They are totally different. Look at the pictures again.

The satellites are RSX-3s

I'm not sure what the history of the sub is, but it's likely unique to the set since it includes an amp for the speakers.

Oh yea, I forgot about the Swan. How does it compare to the Promedias. The Swans are 2.0 which means no bass right? Does that make a huge difference?

Now that I look at it, I'm starting to lean towards the Swan. I think I will try to wait until price drops a little nearing the holidays. Thanks a bunch jello.

Newegg's were $162 last week. Might want to keep checking back on their site to see if the prices change.

In the meantime, check out some more reviews to see what you think.

I have the Promedia 4.1's and they are absolutely amazing...

Hopefully they last a lifetime.

The swans don't have a subwoofer, but still have a decent amount of bass to them. If you listen to rap music etc. you're certainly going to miss a sub.

You could add a sub later on and have something very nice going for your 2.1 system.

One of the dayton subs for example

Click on the performance tab to the the frequency response of them on their own.

Wow your Avater looks exavtly like you.
