looking for new PSU

Do you care about fan noise Hyperlite? If you don't, you could save a few beans by not looking at "silent/quiet" PS's 🙂

well, i have 4 tornados in my rig, so sound isn't an issue. i was more attracted to the Thermaltake by its reported amazing 12v rail...in one of the reviews, someone took a multimeter to it under massive load and it didn't even waver .1 volt.

in short, i don't care about the noise, only about the electrical performance...and i have a windowed case, so asthetic value does play in.

Enermax makes PSUs with very strong 12V rails. Check them out (not the Noisetaker versions, since you already have 4 fans).

The Enermax 350w have 26amps on the 12v. NE $59. If you want higher watts, the 460 is providing 33amps ($75).

ok, well heres another question....how much do i need? The most i will be running is:

XP-M @ 1.8vcore, 2.4ghz
2xWD 80gb SATA in RAID0
4xVantec Tornados
Cold Cathode bar light
9800pro-xt
512x2 PC3500

I just bought the exact same PSU with the black casing. I have heard a lot of good things about thermaltake PSU's so I am hopeful.

Figure 3 amps for the hdds and fans, 2 amps apiece for the opticals, throw in 6 or 8 amps just because, and you'll be pretty close. The 350w Enermax w/26 amps/12v will be more than enough.

I think the idea is to keep the 12v rail strong in order to keep from depleteing the 3.3 and 5v rails, once the 12v reaches maximum.
