Hi everyone,

I am new here. I am going to be building a new gaming rig and wanted to get some advise on what kind of monitor to get.

My budget for the monitor is $250 MAX (CANADIAN CURRENCY).

I will mainly game, do my homework and sometimes watch movies.

Looking for somewhere from 22" - 24".

I don't know if 1920 x 1080 would be good or 1920 x 1200 would be good.

Also, if i get 1920 x 1200, will i be able to switch from that to 1920 x 1080?

Is 1920 x 1200 better than 1920 x 1080 for gaming or for movies?

Also, what's the difference between 16:10 and 16:9 (i know this one is widescreen)?

My video card is GTX 285 FTW edition.

Any advice/help is greatly appreciated.

If Dell Canada still has the Dell 2209WA, get it before they disappear. It is arguably the best 22" monitor that you can get. It is the only 22" IPS screen that I am aware of. I bought 2 of them earlier this year.

IMO, I like the 16:10 screens more than the 16:9 screens because of the increase in vertical resolution is good for office work and browsing web pages because the information is vertically stacked. Watching movies results in black bars at the top and bottom.

At this time, I would not buy any 24" screen that cost $250 because it's highly likely you'll end up with a TN panel. If you can find a PVA or MVA though, go for it.
