Looking for new MB suggestion

I have been in the process of slowly building a new multipurpose rig. I had planned on going with the Abit Ip35-pro board but now I am reading issues with the Corsair HX620 which is the PSU I am going to be using. I already have the PSU and mailed off for a rebate so I can't return it. Any other suggestions on boards? The computer will mostly do everything except for gaming. I don't plan on overclocking but I like the option to if I decide to down the line.

I figure I will move the C2D E6600 from my gaming rig which I will probably upgrade to the Q6600 and I will be using 2gigs of the Ballistix PC6400 which I just picked up from Buy.com due to their rebate. I will probably also be moving the 7900GS KO card over from my gaming rig which will be getting the 8800gt most likely. All of this will be going in the CM 690 case with a couple of hard drives, probably dual booting Vista and XP.

There's a Corsair rep in this forum. PM him to see if he will refund your purchase or upgrade your 620 to a better PSU that's not affected with this problem. I've also seen compatibility issue with the 520/620 and Asus boards. Might want to check the Gigabyte forum for feedback.

No report of problem with Corsair's 650/750. Dunno if these are too new to show up on the radar list.

What issues are you reading about concerning the IP35 Pro and Corsair HX620?

IP35 Pro was one of the boards I was considering for my build and I already have a Corsair HX520, so wondering what these issues are since I haven't read about any yet.

But if you are considering a different board, I'd suggest the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 (Ver 2.0)

Can't POST. No light, fan, and sound (no sign of life). Others will get fan but no POST. They switched to another brand and the PC came to life. Reconnected the 520/620 PSU, and get the same no-POST.

At this time Abit, Seasonic, and Corsair have no working solution for these problem units. A few Seasonic-built Antec PSUs are also affected, although the Antec Earthwatts line is okay. Common theme appears to be an issue with some Seasonic PSUs.

Compared to the no. of units sold by both abit & Corsair the problem is tiny but does exist.
Last time that I spoke to Yellowbeard they were talking about 10-20 cases between the US & UK (& abit in the UK alone shift 1000s of IP35 Pros per month).

As mentioned similar has also been seen on other mfrs mobos.

You may have a bad board. Have you tried a minimal boot up on cardboard, with just the cpu/heatsink, one stick of memory, and video?

I'm using a Abit IP35-E with a Corsair HX520 without a problem. Don't always believe everything you read.

Doesn't seem like it's a problem to me and I would agree with that poster.

I've got a IP35E and a Corsair 520X...no post...I get fans and lights, but no post...same as the other supposed 10-20 people out there. Of course, if 10-20 people come to these forums with the problem, how many more are out there figuring they just fried their board?

What you are saying is just ignore it and it will go away...abit/corsair/seasonic don't listen to this guy...I want to know why my setup malfunctioned.

And I believe your rig was 100% operational before with a 400W Seasonic. All you did was swapping out the old Seasonic with the 520. Unfortunately, the system will no longer POST with either PSU.

Can you PM the Corsair rep and request for a FREE upgrade to a 650 or 750? I don't believe Seasonic has a 750 watter, so that would be my first choice.

Quick to blame a PSU for "frying" a motherboard? Shame on you. I didn't see you "install" it so how do we know you didn't do something wrong?

Fans and lights, no POST...what beep code do you get? If there are fans and lights then that's usually a key that the PSU works. Try taking everything out except the CPU. What beep code? That's the first step in troubleshooting a problem during POST but you haven't even mentioned it here.

Well, since this is about my 30th build or so over the last 2 years, I doubt I did anything wrong...but anything is possible I suppose. Replacing a PSU isn't exactly rocket science. I'm actuallly pretty sure the PSU still works, just not with this mobo...that's the problem.

This isn't the thread where I've been posting my process, that's why I didn't mention here. Take your combative, superior tone elsewhere...there's a problem here...some of us are trying to discover why this PSU and this motherboard seem to have issues with each other sometimes. I'm definitely not the first, and I bet I won't be the last with this situation.

Tthe 10-20 was all in at that time, not just from this forum.
I haven't seen any reports of the PSU actually damaging the board before but merely failing to start it.

abit/Corsair/Seasonic are interested & believe me that they like to know why things don't work too. I know that Yellowbeard (Corsair rep) has tried several Corsair PSUs on his IP35 Pro & they all worked perfectly.

abit have shipped 100,000s of IP35 series boards of which 1000s if not 10,000s will be using Corsair/Seasonic PSUs just fine.
Nobody is saying that this problem doesn't exist for some people just that it is very rare compared to the numbers involved.

i am one of the few that the ip35 pro & 520hx didn't work together. i was getting the "won't restart after leaving BIOS for changes or just looking at settings" issue. it would get stuck in a loop of a few different post codes, but never actually restart. it required a clear CMOS to get it to start again. from what i've heard, it has something to with the startup circuits in the corsair psu's, but they're still working on figuring it out.

i PM'd yellowbeard on abit forums and he never even replied to me. i just went ahead and started the RMA process from the corsair website. i rec'd my new 520hx a couple days ago. they didn't give any hassles in the RMA process. other than losing $9 in shipping, i'm satisfied with their RMA process.

I now have the 520hx for sale here on the FS forums. while it was out, i installed a thermaltake 650w modular and it's working just fine. i'm not going to go through the hassle of swapping it out again, even to test it.

here's my hardware if anyone's interested:
