I am in the market for a new flat screen tv. What does everyone use here?

I keep reading about how the new TVs suffer from input lag which make some games unplayable it seems.

im looking in 42-50in range.

right now im leaning towards the panasonic g25 series...

has anyone actually notice input lag and what not

I game on a 42" Toshiba LCD and I do not notice input lag at all.

From the little I know I think that Plasmas typically have little if any lag, and make great gaming sets. Burn-in is (mostly) a thing of the past as well.

*edit*And ALWAYS go as big as you can on a TV. I didn't do it when I bought mine and sure enough a few months later I was wishing for a larger set. It never fails...

i use a Pany G20, same damn TV as the G25, lag is not an issue, the G25 does have image retention issues with some games. mostly ones with bright red GUI elements according to the posts on AVS about it. i don't have any issues with mine, i play games in "THX" mode which runs much lower brightness and contrast vs the defaults in "Game" mode

from the imput lag thread on AVS the G20/25 runs the lowest of any current 2010 models both LCD and Plasma

I have a Sony Bravia EX500 series, used more for HTPC than gaming but still very happy with its performance whenever I hook up the 360.

I'd reccomend Panasonic Plasma. Best TV I've ever owned. No lag. No IR. I even fall asleep while gaming for 5 or 6 hoursuntil I wake up the next day and still no IR

yea i ran the slides. floating blacks exist. the extent to which they annoy people varies. seeing as i have to try too find them i don't care so much

It should also be noted that a lot of TVs have a "Gaming" mode that disables some of the image processing and thus reducing the lag. Some TVs have an input labeled "Game" where this mode will kick in automatically on anything using that input.

Panasonics game mode is rumored to turn off pixel orbiter

what is pixel orbiter?

while i read the game mode does help somewhat.. some tvs are just awful still..

from what i read new samsung lcds are the worst and nothing saves them.

i currently have and old samsung -- 4 years old i think and its perfect.

My Panny Plasma doesn't even have a game mode. Not sure why it would. There is literally no lag.

Mine's a couple years old so maybe the new ones do but I don't understand why it would be needed.

I just got a 42" panny. the TN-P42c2 must say i am rather happy with it. Didnt do any burn in (i know, i know but i got the warrenty so wasnt to worried) Right out of the box it looks meh, but use some calibrations found over on avs and it looks wonderful.

As for gaming (which i do a lot of..ps3 mostly modern warfare 2 for reference) i have seen no burn in/IR. Its probably got a good 50 hours and most of those are MW2. No input lag that i notice at all. Seems to do everything i tell it to right when i tell it to with no ghosting or anything.

i would recommend it!

You will not notice input lag unless you're playing fighting games, first person shooters, or music games. Depending on the TV you're only going to get 5-10 frames of input lag which doesn't really matter unless you're playing one of those games I listed.

If refresh rate is an issue, plasma is a good choice. Otherwise 8ms or lower should be plenty fine for gaming. Most TVs are like that.

Just bought a Samsung 55" LED. Input lag was ATROCIOUS. Gears of War 2, Rockband 2, and MW2 were all totally unplayable. Turned on the "Game Mode" and that resolved about 95% of the lag. Still not as crisp as before, but it's only noticeable if you're looking for it.

Frankly, I'm running the TV in game mode for everything now. Looks better than all of that post-processing shit anyway.

Picked it up from BB for $750 out the door on father's Day. 42" 1080p 120hz zero input lag and it has game mode but I always use the same setting for gaming as I do for viewing HD from my cable provider. No input lag whatsoever and I play everthing from Forza3, Fallout3, Dragon Age, Red Dead Redemption etc. It's the new mid range model as of March, 2010 and is about $150 less that the network ready. i figured why do I need netflix etc on my tv when my 360 already does it all. I couldn't be happier.

Since you play mostly FPS, I think your best bet is a plasma. Low/zero input lag and excellent handling of motion. My PS3 is connected to my Pioneer 5080 plasma and looks excellent. When I ran the Guitar Hero test for input lag, it found none and didn't have to make any adjustments.
