I like my Calphalon much better than the Farberware my parents have. They are heavier and heat more evenly.
Any stainless will discolor when you get soap on it. It's purely cosmetic. You can polish it with barkeeper's friend if it bothers you.

True Calphalon does make a stainless set. I believe the OP was referring to the anodized aluminum version tho
 
Sams Club has a Wolfgang Puck for $100~ or so thats pretty nice IMO. All stainless steel with glass tops/lids.
 
budget and type of cooking.

If you want to be chez cool...buy the most expensive items on the market (not going to be calphalon though).

Amazon has deals constantly on these items.
