But I am afraid to get the new 52X ones. I am afraid that they will sound like airplanes taking off. Saw on the TDK website, that the have 48 X and 40X models still available. Are the 52x not that loud and i am being silly?? Or will the slower drives be less noisey? Opions???

Thanks

There is a very small if any noticeable noise difference in the drives. I would get a Lite-on if I were you. They are very dependable, and not too noisy. Take a look at the Lite-On LTC48161H. It is a 48x burner, but also a 16x DVD-rom drive. Don't let that scare you , though, as the price difference is only like $3 - $5 from the CDRW only version.

BUT I LIKE THE COOL FRONT BEZEL OF THE tdk... OK MAYBE NOT THAT MUCH. I'll go look at NewEgg and see if they have Lite ons

Should have gotten a Samsung. Quiet, and one of the only drives I've ever seen with an 8MB cache instead of the standard 2MB. I've got two of them - one beige and one black.

The Lite-on is also very quiet and probably the best value. Theres not much better at any price with the exception of Plextor.

you'll love the lite on, i have a 52x and a 48x and a 16x dvd (they didn't have the combos when i was buying) i also have a 40x that i put back in the box for a future build for my son. never had a prob with any of them. flash to latest firmware and goooooooo!!!!
