Looking for new all in one printer - What's the difference between these 2?

I am looking for a new all in one printer, and was looking at the Canons. I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between the Canon MP150 and the Canon MP170. I was looking on the Canon website, and it looks like everything is exactly the same on them. The only difference is the Pictbridge that I could see. I'm not really interested in that, so I was thinking about getting the MP150.

Any suggestions?

Bad choice in either-----they are chipped---too small of a cartridge to be a good refill candidate--forget third party cartridges--not an option on a chipped canon--but you are probably right--pic bridge is the difference. But either printer will eat you out of house in home replacing cartridges if you print much.

Now the MP130--the one generation back equivalent-----is a different animal----you can get third party cartridges for it at a buck apiece--because its an unchipped canon. These and the even better unchipped canon MP780 can still be found on ebay---but last week the MP780 was on sale for $150.00 at Fry's electronics after rebates.

Also consider a brothers model--they too are unchipped and replacement third party cartridges are cheap.-------but unless you just love buying expensive replacement cartridges----get the Canon MP150, MP170, and MP450 exsponded from your list. Something like the MP500 is one of the most economical inkjet printers on the market because they use larger cartridges--when compared to any inkjet on the marker--Oem cartridges to OEM cartridges--even if they are chipped.

But the MP780 is equally economical and can digest OEM cartridges, third party prefilled cartridges,
or be refilled with complete ease. I would not have a chipped canon.

The 150 and 170 have ink cartridges with integrated print heads (yes, Canon has gone and done that again! ) - even worse than chipped tanks! Danger, Wil Robinson, Danger! They are really blowing these (and the printer models that use the same carts) out with rebates and sales as they expect to make out like a bandit on the carts.

As Lemon suggested, look for an MP-760 or 780. You will save HUGE bucks over the life of the printer. Or consider a Brother. My local staples had at least one MP780 at $150. AR the last time I was in. And they have a $180. brother (MFC-5840CN - has memory card readers - 35 sheet auto feeder for fax and copy functions - 33kbps internal fax-modem - two paper trays) for $100. this week and you don't have to wait for any steenking rebate. They both will save HUGE bucks over machines that use chipped ink tanks or integrated-head cartridges.

See nearby threads re. ...cheap printer... and ..compact printer.. for more info.

Well, I'm looking for one that has a built in scanner, and it has to be fairly compact since the space available is pretty small. I don't care about a fax either. I can't seem to find an mp130 at any place I've heard of. What is the print quality of the mp130 vs. the 150 or 170?

The Mp130 does very well from what I have read--I seriously doubt the mp150 or 170 would do any better.--sizewise--I think they are almost identical.

But Zepper is right------a MP750, MP760, or MP780 is what you should look for---call local electronic stores---see if they have any in stock---check ebay also. --check your local Fry's. Let your fingers do the walking.

Another two models and unchipped are the Canon MP370 and MP390---very similar to the MP130.

Ok, you guys talked me into it. I'm going with the MP130 (the others were more expensive than I was looking for). It was $99 where I bought it, which was a little more than the mp150 or mp170 (after rebate), but hopefully I will be able to make up the difference in ink costs. Hope I like it!

Thanks for all your help.

Heck yeah, the 24 series of tanks are way cheap on the clone market, but you'll be changing them a lot if you print much at all. The i450 I had before my iP450 had a similar print engine and it did a surprisingly good job for the money.

One good vendor of bulk BCI-24 cartrudges is www.bulkinkjetcarts.com
I have used them and they have a toll free number and excellent customer service.
See reviews of other vendors at the nifty stuff forums. To beat Zepper to the punch,
he likes swiftink.---my only recommendation is check out your vendor well and you will
do well.-------choose a vendor who has been reviewed and has good ratings.
