We bought this one for our 10 year old grandson at X-mas:

Dammed thing takes 6 D-cell batteries for full-auto, or can be single-shot without the batteries.

apparently there are some pretty cool hacks for this gun...

nerf nite-finder and maverick is/are your best bets.

both have a wealth of mods available. the nite-finder can be modded to shoot REALLY (for a nerf gun...) far.

Vulcan machine gun will always jam right when you need it, it is a rule.

A lot of the cheaper nerf guns can be modded to be very good for very little. 10' of the CPVC you need for barrels is like $3.

I found a mod kit for the nerf nite-finder... im planing on buying a used one then i'll consider moding it

My daughter and I got nite finders for christmas this year. I tried taking mine apart to mod it and they've changed the way they make it. They superglued most of the barrel together which makes it a real pain in the ass to mod.

I got a nerf raider. The fore grip pump makes it easy to shoot fast, though I haven't modded it yet. Plus its got the drum mag and can take magazines from other nerf guns as well. Fun stuff.

I like my CS-6 assault rifle. I drilled out the air restricter and filled the purge hole on the breech. Stretching the spring helps a lot too, but if you stretch it too much, you'll damage the little tab that holds back the plunger.
