Looking for multifunction printer/scanner that can email scans

Hello -

Looking for a network scanner/printer that can scan to email without using a PC.

Want color scanner; b/w print -- laser prefered

Prefer auto doc feeder

Basically, I want to scan an occasional document and have it get emailed to me in either PDF or TIF (or pretty much any) format without requiring a PC to be turned on.

I figure the printer would always be connected to the web and could use my ISP's free email account to receive/send(forward) scanned documents to me.

I've seen this feature on big expensive corporate printers -- but can't find one at the consumer level.

Anybody know of one? Cheaper the better -- light use of scanner via ADF to email would be it's main function.

Never heard of one. Some can fax scans w/o the computer being on, but all that I know of will pop up a computer widow when you press the "to email" button as part of the process and will require some human interaction as well to get it out as a text email (char. recognition) or an attachment to one (graphic images).

OK... sounds like scan-to-email is only in expensive business class scanners

How about scan-to-ftp? I'd prefer scan->email; but I'll settle for scan->ftp.

Anybody know of an inexpensive one?

Not sure what your budget is, but you can look into the HP 92xx series of digital senders that does network scanning/email. It has the option to email the scans in pdf and you can also set it up to send the scans to network drives.

If you're also looking for printing functions, have a look at the HP MFP series (I think 3035 is a lower end that might suit your needs).

I've deployed several of these units, and it's a bit pain to set it up initially (specially the email portion), but once it's set up, these are very nice units to work with.
