I'd call around to local moving companies, the bigger van lines, not the local 2 men and a truck type outfits. Most of the national van lines have agreements with their corporate customers to go pick up used boxes from employees that have been relocated after they've unpacked. You can usually get used boxes from them real cheap or even free from some places.
I was in the moving business for a long time and we always used to have tons of used boxes for sale ranging in price from $0.50 / ea up to about $4.00. YMMV depending on where you're located at.
