Looking for mouse replacement suggestions

I tend to use hardware forever and only upgrade when it fails...old habit die hard. For YEARS I've been using the Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 model 1055 that you can see at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105183. Now that I've got to buy another mouse I'm sad to see that this mouse is no longer in production and has long since sold out. (For something like a mouse...why keep trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak...if it works, then make that thing for 20 years! Everyone who used this mouse seemed to rave about it.)

I want something that's solid, reliable and not overly complicated with extra buttons, weights and gadgets (I don't want a tilting wheel for example). I also want it to be a wired mouse. I've got enough items in the house that are rechargeable or need batteries. There is just no reason for this to be wireless. It's used in one spot its whole life and w/out a wire would probably end up traveling around the home (love the wife...but she'd walk into the kitchen with it for SOME reason I'm sure).

Another critical reason I loved my old mouse was the slopes of the side worked great for me. I actually had to return two mice that through slick shells and tapered sides caused some carpel tunnel discomfort due to problems gripping and lifting slightly when moving back and forth.

Any advice on something solid and simple that will work for years? I know it's only a mouse...but darnit if I don't hold this thing for many hour EVERY day. I need it to work for me!

Thanks

I like the corded version but cordless is all I can find in a fast search.
The thumb button is in the exact right spot.

Suggest you check out the Peripherals Forum for mouse selections, etc. That's where this thread belongs.

My Logitech M510 is the second-most comfortable mouse I have ever held in my hand.

...and the first being?

I came to recommend this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001F7...pi=SL500_SS115 but I see it's eol according to Microsoft. That makes me sad because the explorer mice were some of the best mice ever. Now I hope mine will never die!

I'm finding that if there are any peripheral items I come to love I'm going to buy several and store them away.

I didn't even realize there was a peripherals forum. I'll get it correct next time. Thanks
