I hope this is the right location to ask this question...

I currently have two Dell 2005FPW monitors... one is about to die... flickering/buzzing like a madman. These monitors have done me well in my home office... like the real estate these two together provide. Some background: These are used mostly as home office (spreadsheets, docs, basic photo editing, browsing, etc... ie I don't really use the computer for games). I currently have a GT220 based video card... getting long in the tooth... if I were to replace it would likely be something like a HD6670 calibre card. For what I'm proposing below... is a new video card needed? Ultimate price ceiling is $1,000.

I suspect if I replace the one defective one, I'm not going to be satisfied with the difference between a newer monitor with the remaining working dell which is fast approaching 7 years old. On the one hand, I am trying to be "economical"... on the other... I use these day in and day out so I do want a quality monitor(s).

Options:
1) A single Dell U2312 and sit along side my 20". I think the different PPI and color rendition will drive me batty... not an ideal scenario.
2) Dual Dell U2312 - Good sale going on at Dell right now... very reasonable option... I keep reading about the heavy AG coatings on Dell monitors... is it really an issue?
3) Single 27" Apple Cinema Display - Considerable jump in cost... better quality than the Dell U2312 (true IPS)... it would clear up desk space/clutter. Integrated webcam and speakers are nice. Downside: Sounds like I need to install Bootcamp on my PC in order to adjust settings?
4) Single Dell 27" U2711... similar scenario to #3, minus webcam and speakers... no need for bootcamp. Again... I've read a lot about the AG coatings... I need to find some place where I can compare these...

I've read a lot of great things about the NEC PA271W... but it is above my threshold.

Any thoughts on the above? Anything else I should consider? Dual 24s are a possibility... the downside is that were now talking about a lot of desk space getting eaten up. I briefly looked at the ASUS 24", but looked like the Dell was a equal or better option.

Thoughts? Is there a more appropriate place to ask these questions?

Thanks!
Dave

You're asking all the right questions. The thing is, only you can answer them as it is really up to your tastes which monitor looks best to you, and which arrangement suits you best.
