Hey everybody,

I am looking for a modem that offers acceptable performance for cheap. Mine just got fried by lightening, luckily sparing the rest of my computer. I did some searching on the forums, and it seems that Lucent pci internal winmodems might be the way to go for me. I have no idea which one to get though. Should I be alright as long as it has a lucent chipset on it? The price range seems to be large enough where there are some differences that I am not considering. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

 
Yes, pick up a cheap Lucent LT modem. It makes no difference which brand or model, so long as it uses the LT winmodem chipset. With a softmodem, the drivers ARE the modem, and Lucent's drivers are constantly updated; they work with all LT winmodems.
