Im looking for a laptop with a maximum of $800 price tag (Looking for $600-700 if possible). I found one on Newegg from Acer Aspire AS5520-5716 (which turns up nothing anywhere, even Acer 5520). However, it seems pretty new since it uses a 8400M G GPU, AMD Turion X2 TL-58, 2GB DDR2-667 SO-DIMM Memory, and DVD Burner.

I dunno about the Acer brand tho, well for laptops at least. I also dont know how to base this since I cant find anything (reviews or even mentions) of this particular model (most of the aspire line looks different too).

If this isnt good, can one of you help me find a decent <$800 Laptop? Mostly to do school with, and minimal gaming (WoW, HL2-type mostly). Im not sure if the Intel X3100 is good enough, but the one stated above looks to blow it out of the water. I can deal with 1GB Ram, if the price includes enough to get 2GB or another 1GB stick.

Id really appreciate it, its for a graduation present for Dec/Jan (well, mostly from myself ;))

Looks great. And don't worry about Acer - they are better than HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc... They make good stuff.

That would be completely wrong. HP make some of the best mid range laptops, Plus their warranty is easier to use.

Takes 15 mins on Acers site to find an RMA link. Takes me like 3 mins on HP's site. Its like Acer is trying to hide it, don't get me wrong they are great laptops. But definitely not better than HP.

that acer is the new gemstone design, beautiful look and great build quality. i picked up the 5920 aspire, it looks very similar, just that the screen bezel is biege/cream instaed of black and it has blue highlights instead of the green.

I got the Aspire 5920g with the Core 2 Duo 1.5, 2 gig of ram and nvidia 8600M GT 512 MB and I got nothing but good things to say.

Intel WLAN rocks, v.card plays Quake4, NWN2, COD4 without any problems at native or just below native resolution. The laptop feels solid too. I got it on sale before Christmas for $800 - (Future Shop, Canada)

That's a great price for a notebook of that makeup. Even with minimal gaming, the lowest you'd want to go is the 8400M, so it should suffice for medium to low quality at normal resolution.

I'm pretty sure Acer has (or is in the process) of taking over Gateway, so they are by no means a small no-name company. They're build quality has gotten substantially better over the past year as well.

I don't know. I find the build of the Dell Vostro 1500 Small Business to be a cut above my HP dv6500t. It just feels more solid.
