Hmm, FWIW it looks like SVC is confused about Panaflo fans. They're listing the Panaflo FBL fan as "dual-ball" bearings when they're actually an advanced sleeve-bearing fan with a fluid bath, known as "Hydrowave."

it's $6 more for the panaflo and $7 more for the vantec stealth. and why would you be afraid to buy a fan this cheap?

I think he meant that he spent $7 more for his fan, than the $30 you spent for your fan. So he's got a $37 fan, not a $7 dollar one. But then, you guys may be knowing exactly what you're talking about :)

I paid ~$12for my 80mm panaflow (2950rpm ~40 cfm airflow). Very quiet and with my AX-7 heatsink and artic silver it keeps my 1800XP under 45C even under severe load. That is just the fan though, the heatsink was another $28. If you already have an acceptable heatsink though, you just need a fan.

Edit:

To be more clear, the Globalwin CAKII is a H/S which comes with a 60mm fan. That 60mm is what is killing you. To get 40cfm of airflow it is spinning at 7000rpm, which is going to be loud. Since the heatsink is 60x60mm I think you are stuck with a 60mm fan (ask an expert though). So it is going to be hard to reduce noise without reducing airflow (thus running your CPU at higher temps). The nice thing about the AX-7 is that it is a 80x80 heatsink. Slap an 80mm fan on there and it doesn't have to spin nearly as fast to turnout the same airflow (~3000rpm). Much less noise.

What HowDoesitWork said.

The GC68 linked to above works pretty well, but the ThermalRight AX-7 is simply the best heatsink you can buy, and with a low-speed Panaflo 80mm fan, it will be nearly silent.

The svc gc-68 is the best HSF combo under $10, but not for the overclocker

The best HSF under $20 probably has to go to the svc golden gate, $15

The cak II is a great heatsink, I'd try to find someone with a fan off a volcano II or 5. Those fans are quiet and put out enough cfm to cool well on the cak II heatsink. Or even look for a quiet 60mm fan that puts out around 28-30cfm. Then use the old fan on your cak II to mow your lawn.

Wow, those SVC heatsinks look great, I think I may definitely buy the Golden Gate (I read its easier to install) with the Panaflow the 24CFM/21Db Panaflow 80mm fan to put on my XP1800+ when I upgrade.

I see 2 golden gate's there. 1 which is a 60mm hs that lets you customize which fan you get. And the golden gate 40 which comes with a 40cfm/48db ystech fan standard. It's kinda funny if you buy the gg that doesn't let you customize which fan you get you'll get it for 14.99, but if you choose the customizable one and no fan you'll be paying 19.99. Either way you'll be gettin 60's and that's a noisy hell. I'd stick with the gc68, with the ystech. panaflow may come with 3 pin, but it ain't going to let you monitor the fan speed. Just my thoughts, whatever you decide is always going to be the best option for you.

what do you guys think of the dr. thermal at svcompucycle at around $15 compared to the golden gate? I haven't heard too much bout these golden gates, but I've heard a lot bout the dr. thermals.

The only thing that makes me hesitant about the SVC GC68 is I read that its difficult to attach to the processor. For those of you who have used them before, how hard are they really to install? I don't mind applying a little elbow grease, but I don't want to risk damaging my $100 CPU, either.

It looks good, but the fan is still a bit noisy, I'm really attracted by the low noise level on the 21db Panaflow fan.

Ok, just installed the GC68 and it was about as difficult as any globalwin heatsink. The clip is stiff, so what I did was remove the fan so that I can have more room to work with the clip. I got the panaflo, just as suggested and its pretty quiet. I was also contemplating the dr. thermal, but I wanted the quieter panaflo instead, but I believe dr. thermal is a better performer.

Monkied, what cpu do you have?

I have an Athlon xp 2000+, and I think the panaflo just wouldn't be able to keep the temps down (although I love the quiet of the panaflo's, I already have three in my case!:))

I have an xp 2000+ so the included fan won't do, and I'd have to purchase either the sunon or ys fan separately.

What would be a better option? The GC68+ys tech fan (48.5cfm/37dB) or the TI-V77L (32.73 cfm/34.0 dB). $12.99 vs $15.49

I have had GREAT luck with my ti-v77 Dr. Thermal. Replaced my Volcano 6cu+ with it and my full load temps are now 2c LOWER than what my IDLE temps were before. To top it off, my case temps are 1-2c higher now because I upgraded my vid card. It's also pretty quiet, excellent considering the performance. $19.50 shipped from SVC.
