Looking for Job Ideas

I really need to get a job, i kind of want to get one actually. I'm not very 'qualified' though, and have no job experience or any kind of education (no GED or anything like that). I'm also kind of picky, because i want to get a job i will actually like somewhat. Something that pays well would be nice too. I have no idea what kind of work i want to get into, i know i don't have a whole lot of choice with no exp or edu, but i'm going to keep job hunting until i find something i'm interested in. I don't want to work at a fast food place or any lame job like that. All i can say is that i'm good with computers and don't like human contact very much 😛

I know people will probably say that i should go back to school, but that's not going to happen, or is very unlikely.

I'm just getting over an illness of some sort (don't care to elaborate), so i haven't been job hunting much in the recent past. I have been looking at job sites pretty often, but haven't found anything too interesting, just a lot of scams and work from home crap. Think i'm ready to get a job now though. I have been working for a family business for a while now too, but it's not even like a part time job, i just help out when i can. Somehow I keep busy with life as it is without a job, busy doing useless things though for the most part. I am posting this at 3 AM, so that should tell you something.

One place i might apply is at AOL tech support, they got a place here (in Tucson) and have open positions for full time. I don't think i want to help old people solve their computer problems all day though, even though it would probably be a good job, i think i'd be miserable all the time. I might try it though.

Anyways, any good job advice would be really appreciated, thanks 🙂

You just eliminated about 90% of the jobs you'd be qualified for with that bolded statement. Have you ever heard the old cliche, "Beggars can't be choosers."?

Beggars can't be choosers. You are quite possibly the worst qualified candidate for jsut about anything. At this point you should just be glad to be hired for anything. Personally I'd hire a high schooler with work experience at McDonalds over some 24 year old with a GED and zero work experience.

you have no education no diploma and you dont wanna work at any food places and are very picky, best thing for you is just to pick up your welfare check every 3rd of the month. classic american GET SOME ED AND GET A REAL JOB

dude if you want to go to aol tech support, do it. You will learn human contact after a while for sure and it won't be a problem. Heck ppl don't understand me half the time I speak (english 2nd language,8yrs) and I don't hang out much with americans (except forums, lol) and I'm doing fine at a food place I work in/college. I suggest you play a bit of MMO to learn a bit about communicating with people. But don't get too sucked in to level up 😛 Yeah I know it sounds ridiculous but I think it actually helped me. So if you were born in U.S this should be even less of a prob to actually talk with people.

Well, I'm looking for someone that I can just send piles of cash to.

Good jobs for you are security (night watchman) or manager of a self-storage place. If they bitch about no HS diploma, tell them you're working towards your GED. Security jobs are easy to find, but the bosses are strange - you'll be fine if you know that, and don't take it personally.

Movie theater usher - you'll be around a lot of people, but you don't actually talk to them.

Don't rule out fast food. Look, dude, NOBODY actually wants to work fast food, so you'll be right at home. Try it with an open mind. If it's really that bad, quit - most people do. The "people contact" part is minimal if you work in the drive thru. Just voices on a headset and shoving a bag & a drink out the window. Especially the night shift.

Good luck, and congrats for trying.

I've heard garbage men make good money. And no, I'm not joking.

You could also try to learn a trade. A guy I spoke to once said he makes over $20/hr working for Charter as a cable installer. If you're pretty handy with computers and gadgets and stuff you could probably easily set up cable TV and internet in someone's home. But of course, that would require *gasp!* human contact.

And you don't even need a diploma for a job like that, just a strong work ethic and good customer service skills. I'd seriously look into it man. $20/hr for someone with no degree and no work experience is work considering.

Of course, getting your GED might open a lot of doors. Most companies require, at a bare minimum, a high school diploma. I don't know what's involved in it, but you may not want to rule it out so quickly.

Go into construction. Start at the bottom sweeping and digging and work your way up.
Construction is about the only place where no one cares if you have a degree, and after a few years it's easy to pull down $30 to $40 an hour. Around here, a skilled craftsman can make $75 an hour and have pleanty of work.

I'd say your best bet is to try and get an apprenticeship in a trade. Check out the dept of labor site and find a trade you might be willing to do for 20+ years. Then check out the unions for those trades.

Go work at UPS and after a few years move up as a driver. We're talking around 25-30 bucks an hour, long hours, full benefits, the works and no education required.

What about one of those jobs where you work from home doing stuff over the net (taking orders, tech support, etc.)? Probably doesn't pay too well, but you get flexible hours and can work in your underwear if you like. You sign in and sign out via the web and when you are signed in, calls can be routed to you automatically.

does not compute.

QFT

At least get your GED OP. MOst places require a GED, even temp agencies require a GED.

Dell hires people through temp agencies to build computers for them. I did this for a while. Not a bad job. Pay is around $10 for the midnight shift. But you work 10-12 hr shifts. But again, they require a GED.

**EDIT**
You can also do construction or FedEx/UPS (packaging).

In your situation, you would be best off dedicating your time trying to hit up on a very wealthy chick. A "sugarmama" as some may say 🙂 One that will support you through your entire pathetic life.

Sounds interesting, thanks. I'm not quite sure what people mean when they say "learn a trade" though...

one and only answer: deliver pizza for dominos....2 of my friends do this and make over $700/wk

Did i mention i can't drive? I guess that also limits me on jobs somewhat 😛 - I know i know. No edu, no exp, don't want contact with other people (but i don't mind that much actually), and i can't drive. I can see why i'm getting grilled a little.

Eh, maybe. I kind of want to get out and do something instead of being cooped up in this house all day doing online stuff. Though if the right opportunity came up i might be interested.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I'm reading all the replies...reading the helpful ones more than the mean ones though 😉
