looking for instant feedback/polling software

hi all, I teach high school multimedia classes...Im looking for software that would allow me to 'push' questions to the students machines and have them answer them and give me instant feedback. I am thinking that some sort of IM client might work, but dont know if any have this functionality. I'd rather not use HTML 'polling', but could if nothing else is available.

although I haven't had any personal experience with this, I have seen classes that use this remote control like object to poll a class

I think you need to install perl on the computer first. Also look through the forum section to help decide if you want to try it or not. I haven't tried it myself.
