I?m building a new system for my college age son and would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this video card and or recommendations of other cards. Our budget is $850 and I?m trying to build a system that can be upgraded in the future.

You might want to check out the X800GTO as well... plus you might be able to save a bit by going to another motherboard. Doesn't sound like you need SLI, and you could easily save $60 and bump up to a better video card in the $200 range.

BTW, for comparison, the system you see in my signature was about 850.

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ $322
2x512 Corsair VS RAM $76
GeForce 6800GS graphics card $209
Biostar TForce 6100 motherboard $76
QPack case $80
Western Digital 160GB SATA hard drive $80
LiteOn 16x DVD burner $45

Very upgradeable, and you can save quite a bit of money by going with the Athlon 64 3700+ processor you have listed.

6600GT, very good card, although it's getting quite obsolete as time comes. 6800GS is the mid-range king (6600GT was about a year ago) now.

Everything else looks nice though.

Much thanks for the input and suggestions! I went with a non SLI motherboard as suggested. Appreciate your help!
